Dr Antonio Garza de Yta is the President of World Aquaculture Society and the past-Secretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture at Gobierno del Estate de Tamaulipas in Mexico. Most recently he has taken up a position in Oman as that country"s Director General of its National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (SAGARPA). In late March 2022 he was in Alexandria, Egypt, overseeing the hosting by the WAS"s first African Chapter conference and exhibition - which was formed in 2017 and had been delay twice since due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He reviewed the outcome of this event, highlighted the success of aquaculture in Egypt and pointed to the country as an example of what others on the continent should do and not do in developing aquaculture production and at the end of the interview disclosed the location of AFRAQ23, the second WAS Chapter meeting, which will make place in Zambia!
