Tom Wedegaertner, the director of research and marketing at Cotton Incorporated, from Raleigh, North Carolina in the USA visited Aquaculture America 2022 in San Diego, California for what may well be his last visit. Tom has been working on a project within Cotton Incorporated - for over 27 years - to remove gosapol from cotton and make some 11 million tonnes of high quality protein available to the animal food industry and aquaculture in particular. He is retiring this year in the knowledge that the process of genetically removing this anti nutritional factor from cotton seed meal is complete but not yet taken up by industry. That task he says is for the team that takes over from him.. He talks to Roger Gilbert, the publisher of International Aquafeed about the significance of this work.
